Since winning a scholarship in 1990 for the choral conducting course at the Hereford Summer School, under the late Simon Johnson, Janet had rapidly earned a considerable reputation for her conducting. She has now directed a number of choirs; highlights have included performances of Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi's Gloria and Bach's B Minor Mass and St Matthew Passion. She has acted as deputy chorusmaster for the BBC Symphony Chorus for whom she has rehearsed much twentieth century repertoire including works by Holst, Tippett, Rütti, Walton, Firsova, and Rachmaninov; and has also trained
the Philharmonia Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus. She is a chorusmaster at the St Endellion Festival where she has rehearsed the choir for performances of Britten's opera Peter Grimes, Bach's St Matthew Passion, Messiaen's Trois Petite Liturgie and Rachmaninov's The Bells. Other concerts have included Fauré's Requiem, Duruflé's Requiem, and Handel's Messiah with period instruments. She is also the director of Choir Works, an organisation specialising in the running of choral workshops.
Janet now regularly directs four choirs including Choros, based in Oxfordshire. She has a special interest in the music of Gustav Holst. Recent concerts have include the Bach B Minor Mass, Holst's Choral Fantasia, Janacek's Otcenas and Brixi's Missa Integra in D.
As a guest chorusmaster with the BBC Symphony Chorus, the Philharmonia Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus, Janet has worked for conductors such as Andrew Davis, Richard Hickox, Yakov Kreizberg, Kurt Masur and Mikhail Pletnev. She is chorusmaster for the Newbury Spring Festival Chorus who performed in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2003
